Cornell Center for Hospitality Research panel focuses on current critical hot topics in labor law

The agenda will be determined on the spot by panelists and participants at a plenary session on "Hot Topics in Labor and Employment Law," at the April 2011 HR in Hospitality Conference. During the session, four attorneys who practice labor and employment law will focus on the critical issues for the hospitality industry, including discrimination, immigration policy, and retaliation. Three of the four panelists represent partners of the Cornell Center for Hospitality Research (CHR). Moderated by David Sherwyn, associate professor at the Cornell School of Hotel Administration, the session will present the following labor law experts:

Gregg Gilman, Partner and Co-Chair, Labor & Employment Practices, Davis & Gilbert LLP, New York City;
Carolyn Richmond, Partner and National Co-Chair, Hospitality Practice, Fox Rothschild LLP, New York City;
Leslie E. Silverman, Partner, Proskauer, Washington, D.C.; and
Paul Wagner, Shareholder, Stokes Roberts & Wagner, Ithaca, NY

Richmond, who represents most of New York City's major restaurant groups, stated: "This will be a valuable discussion for hospitality managers who need to know the latest developments in labor and employment law. It will be right up to the moment, and we don't pull any punches. The other attorneys and I will focus on the pitfalls and potential problems in current case law, based directly on matters that we have personally handled. The fifth annual conference is set for April 4-6 at the Marriott Wardman Park, in Washington, D.C. Hot Topics in Labor and Employment Law will be held during the conference, on Tuesday, April 5.

Earlier that day, before Hot Topics in Labor and Employment Law, the HR in Hospitality Conference will feature the Cornell HR Executive Summit, which is also driven by the critical human resources issues facing conference participants. In Part I of the summit, J. Bruce Tracey, associate professor of management at the School of Hotel Administration, will lead a discussion on human resources strategies. In Part II of the summit, Sherwyn will lead a discussion of current issues with employment law experts from the industry's leading organizations, including CHR partners Davis & Gilbert, Denihan Hospitality Group, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Fox Rothschild LLP, Hilton Worldwide, Hyatt Hotels Corporation, Proskauer, and CHR friend, Wyndham Worldwide. Then the expert "Hot Topics" panel will take on some of those legal issues in the following plenary session.
