Unlocking the Power of Digital Literacy
Apr 14, 2023
We are in the digital age, a new era of learning. Our children do not remember life before the Internet. Social media is their preferred method of communication. I am amazed how my sons took to the digital environment without any formal instruction. To them, speaking in “digitalk” is an intuitive form of expression. For the most part, their teachers at school cannot relate to what it truly means to be digital. How can they without first-hand experience? I argue that digital literacy is a critical skill that needs to be learned and applied to our daily lives.
Keys To Success | How to keep the PASSION in your career | 101 of the Greatest Ideas in Management -
Apr 13, 2023
I first wrote on this topic for the Birmingham Alabama, BUSINESS FIRST weekly business newspaper. I recently found an old comic strip story, in Sally Forth, where the 11-year-old daughter is asking her working mother for help in completing a school assignment. The question is on careers and the mother is asked if her job is “fun.” The mother responds that “fun” is not quite the right word for it. “Are you sure that is what it says?” she asks. The daughter spells F-U-N and the mother continues, “If work were fun, people would say ‘I’m going to fun’, rather than ‘I’m going to work.’ ” The daughter answers she is confused; the mother puts everything into perspective by telling the daughter to “just put down that I usually like my job.”

Hospitality Academic Programs Case Study
-
An intermediate sized city was undergoing tremendous growth in several hospitality segments, including hotels, restaurants, attractions and special events. The population of the city was not growing at the same pace and the need for qualified and competent staff at all levels had become critical. There was neither a 2 or 4 year hospitality program in the area and several major hotel and restaurant employers were looking for support and assistance.
