Hotel Security, by Donald Decker, CPP, CPM
Security for
hotel patrons and their property is important. If a bad reputation is
labeled to a particular location, its’ long term viability becomes
questionable. The hotel industry has often been accused of being
negligent in the security of its guests. Negligent security claims have
resulted in courts ruling that the hotel industry take a
responsibility for the safety and security of their patrons. Security
is one of the most important issues confronting the hotel industry
today.
In this article, Donald Decker will examine the following issues:
- Parking Facilities
- Crime Foreseeability
- Security Measures
- Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design

Providing Reasonable Care, by Jesse Denton
Hotels are
expected to provide reasonable care to ensure that guests have a safe
and secure stay. Reasonable care includes a sturdy door, which closes
and latches and locks, on the guestrooms' entrance. When working in a
guestroom, take note to be sure the door lock, swing bar or chain
secondary locking devices and the viewer are all securely in place and
in good operating condition. Report any irregularities to your manager
or engineering so necessary repairs can be implemented. Room attendants
at many hotels have maintenance work request forms on their carts. A
very good idea for having repairs completed quickly. However, hazards
posing an imminent threat to the safety or security of the guests should
be handled even more quickly with a call or verbal report to a manager
or supervisor. Read the complete article (on page 3)
